Follow the twinkling lights?

What was all that on teletext this morning... about a giant Christmas tree in Sussex going to be used as a new "approach beacon" for pilots landing at Gatwick?

Just so long as they don't use the one in Trafalgar Square by mistake - recall the two gasometers north of Heathrow!

Actually the tree is at Wakehurst which is "owned" by Kew Gardens. Wakehurst is just north of Ardingly resevoir and probably only about 15 miles from Gatwick as the crow or 747 flies.....

It's actually a rather attractive sight.

How do I know a month before Christmas? Because it's been lit up and visible for miles for as many years as I care to remember.
