Have we reached saturation point ?

There is more talk around regarding a fourth London airport. But is it a feasible option wrt ATC capacity ?

Most of us are well aware of the ATC staffing difficulties. But bottom line, could this option be accomodated into an already crowded airspace ?

Say for example, you had an open chequebook, would the technology support it ? Not talking about bodies at screens, - that's another issue well covered here. I am talking about the actual hardware, systems and general infrastructure.

saturation point?

certainly not. It is only a matter of getting some heads round the problem. Some of the existing grandfather rights to the airspace might need changing together with some new bits....that's all.

Hi - Lost_luggage34

Yes, we have reached saturation point, and it will probably all end in tears.

Saturation point? No, not quite....

Given another runway in the LTMA and STARS (and SIDS) that keep aircraft low (and the extra controlled airspace to support those ops)... and agreement from operators to enter the LONDON FIR below FL200 from continental EUR.... etc etc.

That said...

Chances of more concrete?
More CAS?
Agreement to use low level STARS/SIDS?
More ATCOs..... ????

So, it could be done. Practically, it will not be.

Yup....

But the best bit isn't on the map... a small town (north)West of DFW.... goes by the name of Trophy Club. I hear the people there are REAL NICE folks

See you

See the thread in "Reporting points" about runways at LL.

Cool

120.4

I wouldn't really call it redundancy since we use ALL of them everyday... Keep them busy from about 0630 until about 2130 everyday, then the pace slacks off...
