HF Airband in times of HF radio blackouts like we had recently.

Hi all....I know transatlantic aircraft dont rely on HF radio anywhere near as much as not so long ago with having data sat links.

But the recent solar storm caused the HF bands to collapse....

During a HF Radio collapse how would aircraft crossing the atlantic cope if force none radio....

I have no idea if the whole would is now covered for long range aircraft comms with data links....if not it must cause big probs????

I am presuming Data links are not using HF bands....would I be correct.

Only reason I ask....I am a uk radio ham....and am a big user of the HF bands.
