Atc training
Hi guys I’m looking to start my training with a private company to complete and obtain my student license. Do you recommend doing it this year or postponing to wait and see the outcome of covid?
thanks in advance

I’d wait.
no UK ansp is recruiting. NATS have just terminated training on 121 new starts.
save your money - aviation is potentially damaged permanently and even if it recovers will likely take years

ATC went from an employees market where ATCOs could almost write their own dream-sheet and go where they wanted in 2019 to redundancies and gloom in 2020. On the plus-side there are so many retirements due in the next decade and so few trainees in the system that medium term prospects are good (until AI takes over, but bear in mind computers have been due to take over since the 1970s), but I think you would be starting too soon for this downturn unless you have a job lined up at the end. I think that a fresh student ATC licence is only good for 6 months from issue after which you would need to pay for an assessment of precious competence before starting any training.
