Could be a classic case of controller headset mic being too far from the mouth...when you mention it...controller adjusts mic boom and all works fine.

It has been going on for at least two years at least two controllers there are weak and as stated if you call them and tell them , then hey presto its strength 5. Most of the locals have given up saying anything as it seems a waste of time.

Bob every time it happens chirp it.
It sounds to me that they are being gash, someone needs to audit the unit and kick peoples backsides that when they are on the desk they have there equipment fitted in a manner that produces maximum quality.

I feel for you Helen if that is the case.
I know from the other end of the mic what a complete pain it is when the leaders don't lead by example only talk a good flight.
You never know public humiliation of the unit might get the guilty swine's to sort their ****e out. We can only live in hope.

Apologies if I gave the impression that I worked at BPL. I don't!!
Reading the thread I gained the impression that the problem relates to 'operator' rather than 'technical' problems. This made me think that some management skills are called for..........the absence of a solution prompted me to suspect that it is the management disciplines which are lacking.
I could be wrong!

Im currently doing my PPL at Blackpool, it does depend on the controller. On Friday I spoke to three of them in the same flight and they were all at different levels. Even the loudest isn't great though, but the service is always fantastic :-)

I flew into Blackpool yesterday. Tower controller on the way in was very quiet and I had to turn the radio up quite a bit. I forgot to turn it down again and when I called for taxi on the return flight it was much louder than I expected. Must be a headset issue.
