Alan Taylor - ScOACC & Manchester - RIP
I am sad to report that Alan Taylor, formerly an IPMS Union BEC member, as well as ATCO at ScOACC Prestwick, before moving on to become Manager ATC and the Deputy General Manager there, as well as a short spell as 'Assistant' General Manager at Manchester Centre, has sadly passed away after a short battle against lung cancer.
He was a giant of a man, well respected by both peers and adversaries alike. Firm but fair and with an unparalleled set of negotiating skills, as well as superb technical and managerial knowledge, he is a gentleman who will be sadly missed. His sense of humour was very sharp and he was someone you could trust implicitly. As my boss for a while, he made a big difference in my life and career and I am very saddened by his passing, because not only was he a boss, but a friend.
His funeral will be held at Masonhill Crematorium, Ayr, on Wednesday 15th January at 3.30PM. I suspect it will be a very busy place that day.
RIP Alan, old friend.

A sad loss indeed...... Probably one of the best Managers I have had pleasure to be managed by......he was old school and a Manager that you could trust with your life, something sadly lacking these days!
I too am saddened at this news; I had occasion to contact him ( IPCS wise ) a couple of times over issues while I was at Stornoway and then had the pleasure of meeting him at the '84 ATCO's Conference when I was one of the 'R&D' reps'.
At least his battle with cancer was short.
RIP and condolences to your family Alan.

The sad news has only just reached me in OZ.
I have had the privilege of knowing Alan for many years and working with him on the ATCO's Branch Council. He was one of the best, reliable, trustworthy and very competent, both as a negotiator, a fellow ATCO and a Manager. We spent many happy hours after meetings in various pubs around IPCS HQ and CAA House, sorting out tactics and strategy! Then of course, the weekends at Bredbury Hall were something else.
Alan could always be relied upon to provide sound and well thought out, advice on all matters. A great team member.
Sincere condolences to his wife and family.
