Loss of radio contact procedures

Hello all,

I was curious, after the issue at Gatwick with the plane landing after being asked to go around, what the procedures are for a plane losing complete radio/phone contact with ATC?

I live right under the MERSI waypoint, so see a lot of large jets coming in from America early on for Manchester. These planes hit MERSI then are generally vectored into Manchester. There are STARS of course, but what STAR would this plane know to take if there was absolutely no radio contact?

Another point I was curious about is what if a plane loses all contact on short-ish finals, say 10nm out, established on the G/S? Would it land, go around, go into a pre arranged holding pattern?

Thanks,

Tom

Radio failure procedures can be quite complex and they are all laid down in the national AIP, which is on-line. Try this link, which is full of interesting information. Scroll down to 3.4:
