Arrow The infamous north Atlantic

Hey all, Forgive a non-ATC'er for posting in ATC forum! I'll never do it again!

Been out of touch with the Atlantic for quite a while, and I would like to ask: I hear they put specific waypoints along the 15W line which are now used instead of "5515N" etc for the NAT-Tracks.

What are the new waypoints and what did they used to be?

Thanks,
SFly

They aren't new way points as such. It is the boundary positions being renamed so that they have a name instead of lat/long. They are all in the AIP but here's a list:

61/10 = RATSU
60/10 = ATSIX
59/10 = BALIX
58/10 = ERAKA
57/10 = GOMUP
56/10 = MIMKU
55/10 = NIBOG
54/15 = DOGAL
53/15 = MALOT
52/15 = LIMRI
51/15 = DINIM
50/15 = SOMAX
49/15 = BEDRA

South of 49/15 remains as it has been for some time. Don't ask me who picked the names, why and how.

After entering the ocean it's lat/long as always.

Obviously! I'm sure they put those into a computer and got random names!

Thanks for that wet feet.

Cool

Some of the names are not so random :

RATSU Reykjavik Air Traffic Service Unit
ATSIX At 60/10
BALIX what most of us think of the name changes (B*ll*cks )
ERAKA name of one of the people involved daughter.
NIBOG no comment

The names were allegedly generated after several pints in a local pub

Nothing to do with me by the way!!!
