CMATS / oneSKY Budget

Is the $300-500M budget for CMATS reasonable?

Other CMATS Perspectives?

I can see that over 300 people have viewed this thread in the last few days, which I'm guessing means lots of people are interested in CMATS / oneSKY, so rather than asking a budget question, let me just open it up to general perspectives and thoughts about the program. Is it actually going to happen? How challenging does the govt. think it will be to integrate civil and military ATC systems?

As an interested observer, I find it strange that nobody is talking about this program on PPRuNe!

Or maybe it reflects the large number of people who peruse these threads and have no idea what you're talking about.....

I don't. What's the big deal, its just an air traffic control system. I think that one reason people aren't talking about it is that staff are constantly warned about posting on social media sites.

sunnySA,

The big deal is that this is a half a billion dollar program that is attracting the attention of the largest aerospace corporations in the world. This is the first major Australian ATM RFT since the Hughes/Thompson ordeal. And what Airservices and the RAAF want (in terms of technical capability) could be a model for other nations looking to upgrade their ATM systems.

Just my two cents...
