1953 London to Christchurch Air Race
Five English Electric Canberras (3 RAF and 2 RAAF) flew from London Airport to New Zealand in October 1953. Perhaps the Colonel's claim to fame alludes to LAP not being officially named Heathrow until 1966?

No, I've got them Malcie. I removed them off Micky's feet (brave or plain stupid?!) whilst he was asleep in the tower on a second half...... They still tend to get a bit tangled under the Falcon's rudder pedals from time to time, but still in good nick!!
