Having an ATCO for a parent

This article is a humorous, but very true, account of being the son/daughter of an ATCO.

Great! Not sure our sons were especially interested in my job but I think they appreciated how much I was at home with them.

When you consider our galactic diameter of 100.000 light-years, it is virtually next-door to it.

They worked at a huge control centre in Swanwick, near Poole in Dorset, where all UK National Air Traffic control is based. Really!!!

When I was in the job and still to this day I'm told "you're not a normal dad", not sure which way to take it.

When I was at primary school all the class had to stand up one at a time and say what their parents did for a living when it was my turn I stood up next to the teacher and said "my daddy is an airline pilot" (which he was, BOAC VC10) to which the teacher replied "don't be so ridiculous" and slapped my leg for lying.
