open descent

Thrust goes to idle and the aircraft descends at preselected speed using pitch attitude. The aircraft stops descending at preselected altitude or the ground, whichever comes first.

(The aircraft speed is either selected
by pilot or managed by FMC - The altitude is no longer managed)

I guess the the question is not about scarebus but a form of phraseology, a thread is already somewhere in the forum

Open descent/open climb means alt restriction on the arrival or departure don't apply. Thrust may or may not be at idle during descent depending upon aircraft type.

If talking about Airbus however, its as bigfatchris says.
