Squawk code 0010
Hello all,
Does the listening squawk code 0010 still exist for aircraft monitoring Birmingham radar but operating outside of Birmingham controlled airspace? I believe it started back in about 2008? If it is, does anyone in the know feel there is a benifit to doing this?
Regards

Yes it is used all the time
Especially useful if we see that you are listening on the freq (by selecting 0010). Don't call us, just listen on the frequency. Conversely, if you want a service, use 7000 and call in the normal way. But FFS remain outside CAS unless you have a clearance.

For example the ATCO can see that a 0010 squawk is a about to enter CAS without a clearance. Since 0010 is selected he can broadcast on the frequency to "unknown aircraft 10 miles south of NN" and possibly turn the aircraft away before anything bad happens. So it increases safety
