Undoubtably for the thousandth time....
.......there are some questions that I need answering.
I've worked in ATC for twenty years and thus "outsiders" think I'm the font of all NATS knowledge.
Sadly, that's not the case and just to hammer home my ignorance, I've failed to be able to answer any of the questions that a friend recently asked me. The email went like this:
I'm currently looking at applying to become an Air Traffic Controller and my brother pointed me in your direction to hopefully help answer a few questions I have.
When I looked at the Nats website they say that to apply for the role you will need 5 GCSE's or equivalent including Maths and English Language. Because I got a D in English Language I am going to retake this, However I have 7 years Radar and Sonar experience through my employment with the Royal Navy.
The points I am unsure of include:
- What you think my next steps towards this should be?
- Have you got any tips for the application procedure?
- Do they have a specific intake period?
- Will Nats even look at me without my English Language GCSE?
So, can any of you kind souls answer any of the above?
I'm sure people ask this kind of stuff all the time on here but any pointers/help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Don't offer him any tips on spelling - the word "undoubtably" doesn't exist so far as I am aware!
I got into NATS with 2 O levels - English Language and Geography - so there's hope for anyone who has an aviation background, preferably ATC, and is convincing enough.

Get your friend to check with NATS Recruitment, contact details are on http://natscareers.co.uk
The application is all online now, and without a conversation your friend's application might be sifted out automatically at the first stage. NATS are constantly recruiting, four courses begin every year.

Thanks so far guys.
I'm also extremely pleased, dare I say honoured to have introduced a new word into the English language.
Maybe I should apply for a management job?

HD, you would be correct! It is actually, undoubtedly (according to Thesaurus and The Oxford English Dictionary)
Alternative adjectives: unquestionably, undeniably, certainly

The other pre-requisite these days is to start every sentence with the word "So".
"So, we have achieved the levels of blue sky thinking and KPI's we were targetting for V2011......"
