I went thru the old threads about DFS from last year and still have a few questions
direct entry to towers has it been done and is DFS still interested in them, what towers are we talking about, Frankfurt? Munich? what is the tower pay versus the ACC pay?
are Frankfurt and Munich towers seperate from their approach units or are they conbined meaning is DFS looking for APP rated controllers for their towers?
thinking of making the switch from my current tower (400k+ movements)
living is Europe is my goal even if it means a pay cut

Tower and Approach have been separated some years ago. So we have specialized Approach controllers and specialized Tower controllers.

However I dont know for which towers they are searching exactly. But as Frankfurt and Munich both are intended to get a additional runway and therefore need more controllers, there is quite a good chance that you'll be assigned to one of those.
There are two employer for tower jobs in Germany. The DFS (all international hubs) and the Tower Company.
The Tower Company is actually a subsidiary company of the DFS and is working a lot of the smaller airfields in Germany.
However the payment and working conditions in the Tower Company are not as good as in the DFS.
The controllers within the DFS are paid the same regardless of tower or center. The only difference are the working hours. You have to work less the more traffic you have to handle.

You have to speak German to ICAO level 4 to work tower or lower airspace in Germany.
The English speaking jobs are upper airspace (although knowledge of German is useful)

Hi,
It seems that for TWR, the scheme has ended as deemed too expensive. I know for a fact, that the last ready entries all went to EDDF and EDDM where the pay is the highest in Germany. But I heard that their postings depended on how well they performed in the simulator. As regards to ICAO level 4, it seems also that it is the minimum level you must obtain but to be fair, when you control a strong level 5 will certainly help!!

I tried applying for the ATC training there but got back an email in German asking for ICAO level 3 proof. Annoying, cos it is not mentioned on the website that it's obligatory... I guest there's no way around it..? Wasted loads of time preparing the application for nothing..
