NATS moves in pix

A bit of a potted pictorial history of NATS' moves, starting with Drayton to Swanwick. on Flightglobal.com: The ATC changes the pilots never noticed - Learmount

Manchester, only closed in January, looks like something from three-pointer altimeter days! But they managed...!

Nobody seems to have many strips in front of them but the real collectors item is the one of Bob Hills UPDATING , definately one for the album. Hope you're not too hot out there.

When the Southern ATCC was in the square building on the north side of Heathrow many moons ago it had "Southern Air Traffic Control Centre" on the side in large letters. When it was being refurbished the workmen took down the letters, but it wasn't long before some ATCOs reinstalled some of them to read "Lens Cafe". Apparently there was a certain amount of confusion next morning when the incoming watch found the car park full of juggernauts..

That's the basic tale as I heard it.....

From the Daily Blah, Headline NEW CLOSE CALL CENTRE IN PRESTWICK "The steely eyed controllers continued working coolly and calmly despite the Airbus 747 mere feet from their heads"
