Thumbs up

Just saw this thread and I want to add my encouragement to the list here, Telerob. I got into this business when I was just 20 but am in the process of validating in a another sector. I'm finding that learning new tricks is indeed a bit harder for this old dog (if you can call 40 old ), but my motivation and attitude towards the whole process is a lot more mature and in the end THAT helps.

I wish you the best of luck in this endeavour and all the best in truly exciting new career. Twenty years in for me and just as much fun as day one!!

Felix

some great words said here. I'm embarking on the NATS area course next month after 10 years as a mil ATCO, and have had gremlins about my ability to ascimilate the new info and perform to the required standard too. I find it quite surreal that we talk about ourselves, thirtysomethings or thereabouts, as being old dogs struggling to learn the new tricks. It is a sign of modern times that we believe that we may have previously hit our peaks and that other attributes like maturity and experience will need to buffer the lack of quick mindedness that we once, allegedly, may have possessed!

There is an advert in this weeks Flight International magazine for an Air Traffic Controller but it stipulates that the applicant should be under 40 years of age!

I didn't think it was legal in Europe to mention age in job adverts?

Best of luck, as long as you work hard, I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine....you probably have more life experience (and mental coping mechanisms) and less desire to go clubbing until 3am than the 19-yr olds!!!! Everybody is different so don't worry too much about statistics or predictions, just enjoy the course.

You're only old in this job when you go on and on and on and on and on about Tridents.
