Here is a question about the speed restriction ,why limited the aircraft maintain 250KTs or less below FL100 ? Somebody told me that will reduce the damage of bird strike to minimum if it happens ,is that true ?

Bluebird6 & DFC, thanks for the clarifications.

I would think 250kts is the limit simply because that gives more time to "see and avoid", not because it might reduce bird strike damage.

It is also for you to both have time to see them and be able to avoid them. Remember you are equally responsible with every other pilot for avoiding collisions. See if you can find a get-out in the "General Rules for avoiding collisions" when talking about powered aircraft not towing anything based on aircraft type, operation, airspace, met conditions or time of day / night.

There are zero exceptions to the "thou shalt not collide" rule.

Therefore in airspace where ATC are not separating two aircraft the rules of the air apply and one wil have right of way while the other shall avoid it. Just because ATC may have the one required to avoid on a heading does not change the law.

I'll add this one to the list of speed constraints / limits mentioned so far.

UK AIP GEN 1-7-52 (Differences from ICAO) ...

Missed Approach Segment
Turn Parameters - IAS
Unless otherwise specified, all missed approach turns are limited to 185 kt IAS maximum.

Now, does anyone have the authority to waive that limit?
