Where else in the world can Aussie ATCOs apply for?

Hi All,

Just for general knowledge, where else can Aussie ATCO's work in the world once qualified? I am aware of the Middle East.

Info

I think you can try almost everywhere.Germany for sure,Switzerland as well, maybe UK if they don't get enough people soon. For the other places probably South Africa will hire you but they would hire anyone nowadays if you are looking in how deep s..t are they for people.

Good luck,

Gianni

You can apply for anywhere you like. Whether you get it or not depends on whether or not said place recognises an Aussie licence at face value or requires you to undertake additional training. For instance, in the UK you would need to sit an Assessment of Prior Competence and then take whatever "differences" training is stipulated by the CAA. Apparently it's rarely much less than the full course these days, but I can't comment on that.
There's also local employment laws to take into account - the USA, for instance, will not take non-US citizens. In many countries also, ATCOs are civil servants which means taking the civil service exams (in their own language, of course!) first.

However, I know of Aussies controlling in
Ireland
Germany
ME
and IIRC Canada.
Pretty sure there's a couple in the UK too.

It would be worth sticking the same question on the Civiilair forum too.

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback.. always good to know future options.

Germany hey.. hmmm I speak German, so that could come in handy one day. :-).

I did hear that controlling in the US is almost impossible, however many go to Canada.

But like I said, mainly just for my own info for down the track.

Thanks again!

Cheers

Interesting to see people looking elsewhere before they have even started with Airservices!

Why is this gemmy? Are you just personally interested in travel/expanding your horizons, or has your future employers' reputation preceded it?

Ferris...

Laughing... no no, I was just simply interested in asking the question. I thought there was no better place to ask the question than here.

Someone asked me the other day & I thought I'd actually ask people in the know....

I've just returned from living & working overseas, so I'm very much looking forward to basing myself in Oz for at least the next 10yrs.

Yep, you have to be born in the US to be a controller there.
