A question about the old ATC logs?

Manchester Central Library houses the ATC log-books for Manchester from 1958-1997.
I notice from the mid-60's onwards the registration is never entered against a flight-number,otherwise all the other neccesary information is entered..Why was this ?

Thanks,
Mark

Possibly because around that time stored flight plans came into use and ATC was only aware of a flight number rather than the registration. Just a guess...
