A good ATSA is worth their weight in gold, a bad one ain't worth a heap of the steaming stuff, fortunately most ATSAs are in the first category and it's a career well worth pursuing.
Don't get too excited about the salary, outwith NATS most regional airports have reduced starting salaries to a pittance, although most offer the opportunity to progress onward with ATCO training schemes if that's what you want.
Under current pension rules, only basic pay is included, the extra allowances don't count.
40p per mile is the current limit imposed by HMCR, anything above that attract income tax at the appropriate rate.

Just what is going on between Bamboozle and Gonzo, ('er being a lass from the flat lands soon to be going to the sarf coast and 'im being on the selection panel????).

Careful SwanFIS you'll be accused of being an ass kissing management lackey if you carry on writing things like that

Well Done Saints

Air Traffic Controller Assistant
Hi im interested in becoming an air traffic controller assistant, at maybe southampton airport or swanick. Can anybody advise the best route in or qualifications needed.

Thanks very much

Paul Knight
For those of you who don't know Mr Knight, he is the Ops Director at BOH. So well done Saints44, you started a fight and got ATCO's bitching about assistants and visa versa. All with one misunderstood joke.

Bravo.

Can anybody give me a rough idea of what you may expect to be paid working as an Air Traffic Control Assistant?

Depends on "Service Provider"......eg NATS.....and "Grade"
AFAIK, none NATS start at circa £15k, and go to £30ish...
NATS, ATSA1 [ACPO] £15K [ish] to ATSA4 £45K. Plus overtime...
Won't last tho' getting rid of the ATSAs......
