Changing ATC discipline
Without wanting to start another discussion on the old area vs aerodrome debate, how common is it for someone in NATS to change from one ATC discipline to the other?

Alternately, if you're one of the old buggers who have done the area courses and can get a release from your Twr/App unit, you can apply have an assessment.
Yep, there are still some of us about, though we're a bit long in the tooth for that oul carry on.

EGLL at present have a number of trainees, some who were previously valid at TC, wthin the last year 2 Heathrow Approach controllers have validated in the new tower, however one of those was previously valid before APC and TWR split in 1993.
Sometimes to change from a radar enviroment to a tower can be quite a culture shock.
