As with all controllers (not just in the US but around the world) we do not get paid for the 90% of easy times..its the 10% of pure, for lack of a better word, terror. When you say to yourself.."How in the hell did we do that"....(i.e. weather days with busy traffic).

Not just anyone can do our job well and we get paid for the responsibility of keeping aircraft from colliding and keeping the system working. I would challenge anyone to attempt to work or even watch one of our busy sectors and say we do not deserve an above average salary...

<<Top 10% earn $141,860>>

Shouldn't be anything surprising about it - that's about the same as many UK controllers at busy centres and airports earn - and about time too. Problem is that the coast of living in the UK is about twice what it is in the US. I sure agree with controllerzhu - 10,000%.

Also, I read the article as meaning surprising in the sense that not a lot of people would know doing those jobs could earn that much rather than making any comment on whether they deserve it or not......

Haha that is a joke!!!!!

Yeah um all i have to say is that well maybe forbes needs to take a look at the 2006 contract........ATC won't be number one after that one.

But sadly all of that is just hidden away from the outside world....with the new contract a new rated body at a level 9 facility with 460000 ops/year will only be making 65k/year and that is plus locality!!!!!

Just don't be fooled!!!!!!
