ATCO working with Type1 Diabetes/ITDM ?

Hi guys

If anyone is aware of an ATCO working with Type1 Diabetes, Id be interested to hear.

I understand that Nav Canada may now permit this, if it falls within certain regulation limits.

Please PM me if you know of anyone that may be able to help.

Thanks.

A small number of US controllers are also working with Type 1. Most are restrcited to positions where they do not work alone. IE no small towers and in the centers they can not work mid shifts.

Having seen my buddy injecting in the cafeteria, I believe, he has type 1. I'll ask and find out any restrictions. He certainly works alone and does night shifts.

I'd be interested to know what the parameters are in Canada, you can't work as an ATCO with type 1 in the UK.

.

Not quite, type two diabetes can be overcome to the satisfaction of the UK CAA Medical Branch, controlling it by diet is the easiest way, by diet and tablets the second. There are a number of ATCOs (and pilots) who are in that position.
Unfortunately, type one usually leads to permanant withdrawal of the Medical Certificate.
