The Irish Aviation Authority has rejected union claims that the air traffic control system at Dublin Airport is understaffed.

Liam Kavanagh, IAA Director of Human Resources, said the system was not dependent on overtime.

Staff shortages due sickness left the tower understaffed this evening, the closure was as a result.

Perhaps Mr Kavanagh might like to reconsider his statement?

Staff shortages and external recruitment?

Was just wondering, with all this talk of staff shortages and disputes and all those wonderful things. Does anyone know if the Irish system is still only recruiting from their own student program? Was under the impression they did not hire from external sources for the likes of Dublin?
Just curious really.

The IAA are accepting CVs from any hardy souls willing to join up, except the (mis)management think that offering 3 year contracts (with no extension) on the ATCo pay scale with no bonuses will see applications flooding in...

I've heard colleagues refer to the IAA as the Ryanair of the ATC world, I've a feeling even Micko wouldn't be that scabby.

I don't know the specifics but two Aussies have packed it in here and are taking up positions in Ireland. Meanwhile, we're poaching controllers from overseas.....
