Where to find ICAO video from the 40s/early 50s
Hi!
I'm currently attending ATC-education at Entry Point North in Scandinavia...
We just watched a 20-minute, HILLARIOUS, movie made by ICAO in the 40s/50s... It was about proper use of radio equipment and R/T-procedures.
If someone know which movie I'm talking about, and know where to download a copy.. PLEASE tell!
Cheers

Is that the one with the cool dudes in leather jackets flying the Miami Omni-Range ? They used to show that at the CAA College, Bournemouth in the 70's !
Don't know where you'd get a copy now - did you ask the guys who showed it to you -? It might be out of copyright by now ??

Number Six
I think that was called "flying the range"....great film anyway.
That was one of the greatest pieces of vandalism, when the cinema at Hurn was turned into a locker room for the trainees IMHO

Hi again, and thanks for the replies
No I don't think the video in question is "flying the range". It didn't include any cool pilots wearing leather jackets... Rather it was full of tweed-clothed not-so-very-cool controllers.... In particullary there was one that spoke lengthily (10 mins +) about proper operating of the mike... Rather funny, because he spent like all of it nagging about keeping it close to the mouth etc...

another of the college cinematic greats was the one about bird strikes.
clearly harry enfield got his insperation for Greyson and Mr Chumley Warner from that one. 50's scientists with dead(i hope) chickens and a compressed air cannon. Quality entertainment!
come to think of it about the only film showed at the college that wasn't followed by the rustle of people waking up at the end of the show!!

thpaulsen - ref : "In particullary there was one that spoke lengthily (10 mins +) about proper operating of the mike... Rather funny, because he spent like all of it nagging about keeping it close to the mouth etc".
Those of us who went thro' Bournemouth in the early 70's may remember an instructor who had a similar habit , often preceded by "when I was at Brum.......! "

cleo - thread drift - yes I'm still putting fear in the cockpit where it belongs. (btw Loki & I were on the same ATCA course in 1970 ( #72 ) - I believe his salary is delivered by armoured truck to CATC @ Hurn these days ;-)

That sounds like the wife of a DD, sitting at the back of the cinema, at the end of our yellow peril presentations many moons ago LOL
