NAS was transitioned to Swanwick last night with no real problems. The new system behaved exactly as expected, but that’s what testing is for.

NAS now resides in her new postcode, and long may she provide FDP data to the ATC world.

Who or what is NAS

Is it some sort of computer, file storage thingy??

National Airspace System - a computer system that holds a database of all scheduled flights and provides flight progress strips to the controllers.

The success of the transfer was harked about quite loudly on NATSNET but I guess that's not much use from the outside world.. perhaps they thought the information was not of general public interest!

Big well done to all involved, no mean feat. The new system will have a very hard act to follow. By the way, I think that there are 21 of these in the USA mving 60,000 movements, Europe maxes out at around 31,000.

NAS also provides NATS with route charging data which pays all our wages!! There is the feed to the Swanwick SFS that allows LACC to work, no NAS and LACC go manual.

It’s a integral part of the ATC operations for the UK. She will be VERY hard to replace, many have tried, but none have succeeded.
