A question from SLF regarding DOH and routing

I just did DOH-NBO and back and noted something strange. On the way out we fle pretty much straigh west for fairly long time (100-150 miles) and then suddenly started going southernly across the Saudi peninsula. Same thing when coming up, we didn't fly anything nearly direct up from Sana'a to DOH but to what seemed the same point well west of DOH and then turning toward DOH. Anyone know what this is, since it seemed to be a fairly consistent and well sized deviation from a direct line?
