Age on Joining...
Hey people,
Looking at applying for NATS within the near future for the Trainee ATCO post. Could you tell me what age (roughly if you dont want to say!) you were when you first applied, and if you were successful?

I was 19 when I applied, 20 when I started. On my course the youngest was 18, the oldest 37 (ex mil with previous experience)
I was successful first time, but on our course there were several who were second time or third time applicants.
Oh, and I'm at least as successful as Gonzo.
Cheers,
N

I posted my application the day before my 18th birthday. I'm now 20 and have just finished Area 2 at the college and am now starting training at LTCC.
I managed to get through everything first time so up to date it's been good (touch wood) but there's still a long way to go.
I was the youngest on my course and as far as I know I'm the youngest trainee at the unit. The oldest on our course was 32 or 33. There are some courses which have had older people, usually with previous experience.
Don't let age hold you back, go for it

Yes that is now the rule or has been but on the NATS site recruitment section on the FAQs it has a full answer to it but they will delay you starting at the college if you are successful and get through tests and interviews.
Or by the time you leave college you will be 20 anyway - this is only area rating.
