MAN ATC Question

I can't remember the exact figures, but it's regarding the ATC speed restriction on departure of 260-280kts up to FL250. Now if your cruise level is say FL240 does the speed restiction still apply once at cruise FL or should you request high speed?

Cheers SMOC

AFAIK [which ain't a lot] the "Speed Profile Trial" is only applicable on HON/LISTO deps...ie south into the London TMA all other deps are as normal.
I stand to be corrected.

Hmmm interesting question this.

The briefing says :

B)04/08/05 00:01 UTC C)05/02/05 23:59 RAC (A1782/04)
E)ATC TRIAL: DEPARTURE SPEED PROFILING PROC SHALL APPLY TO ALL DEPS WHEN USING A HON, LISTO AND NANTI SID. IN ADDITION FLTS CAN EXPECT TO BE POSITIONED TACTICALLY IN A SYSTEMISED MANNER.

SID AFFECTED: HONILEY 1R,1Y AND LISTO 1R,1S,1Y,1Z .

PILOTS SHALL FLY THE FOLLOWING SPEED PROFILE BASED ON TWO ACFT GROUPS :

GROUP 1 JET AIRCRAFT ABOVE 35000KG ( EXCEPT THOSE LISTED IN GROUP 2)
250KTS IAS UNTIL FL100
280-290KTS IAS UNTIL FL260

GROUP 2 NON JET AND JET AIRCRAFT UP TO 35000KG AND BA46,RJ SERIES, E135/145,CRJ SERIES. (NOTE: FULL LIST IN AIP AD EGCC6-5)
240-250KTS UNTIL FL260.

NOTE: PILOTS SHALL INFORM ATC PRIOR TO DEPARTURE IF THEY CANNOT COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE SPEED PROFILES.

TO REMIND PILOTS OF THE NEED OF THE SPEED PROFILING TRIAL,THE
DEPARTURE RADAR CONTROLLER WILL USE THE FOLLOWING R/T PHRASEOLOGY: (SID) SPEED PROFILE, E.G HONILEY 1R SPEED PROFILE.

We don't get many 240 cruisers it has to be said. If you were to request that level I suspect once at cruise, your restriction would be lifted by London, though I'm not entirely sure. From a MACC point of view, we'd expect you to stick to the speed trial.

Angel

How is this 'trial' progressing? Does it work? Is it likely to become permanent?

It's very likely likely to become permanent and it works as it should.

Whether that's "well" or not depends on who you talk to about it
