Lorraine Kelly - apology when ready please!

Another typical day on Thames "tinpot" Radar today.

Wind 240/10kts, no ILS available on Runway 28 and cloud 8/8 at 900 feet. The only approach available was ILS to Runway 10 with a big fat tail wind.
Planes holding everywhere - some landing, lots of go-arounds, a handful of diversions and endless opposite direction departures.

Then it is apparently announced on TV that Lorraine Kelly (flying to EGLC from up north somewhere) will be late for her TV slot because of the "Air Traffic computer".

This comment has not gone down too well at EGLC or LTCC. Tower, Thames & TMA controllers were working like one armed paper hangers keeping things moving and pilot's were making very slippery approaches in poor weather conditions. Nothing wrong with any "computer"

Another "If in doubt blame Air Traffic" moment - nothing new I suppose!

Still, I bet it was interesting to see a BAE146 land on a wet runway 10 with a tailwind of 240/10. Maybe from now on we won't be so fast to agree to change ends from 28 to 10 when the wind twitches round a tiny bit!

At least some good came of it then.
Anything that keeps that grinning blob off the telly has to be a good thing.

With such an in-depth knowledge of ATC and Tinpot Radio she should perhaps become an LCE!

(It is to my utter regret that I was watching the said programme this morning when she arrived and said that she flew over the studios and wanted to jump out. Hope springs eternal.)

I wouldn't have pegged you as a big daytime TV fan Mossy, though I suppose you'll have to get use to it come January to keep you company on all those babysitting marathons!

I live in hope of an apology actually, as I mentioned it to the watch management today, who got on to the press office about it. Although as pointed out by a supervisor, it may only be what she was told. However, a public apology is definitely in order, and I'm sure we'll get it.

Oh what's that over there.... yup, it's a pig with wings...

(Going to make an approach to LC I guess!!! )

Cheers,
N

Tinpot Radio seems extraordinarily ignorant of LHR runways, with two for both 28 and 10.
Or is he saying that the ILS for both 28R and 28L were U/S?
In this case it must be outrageous!!!!

You should be careful banding about phrases like
Tinpot Radio seems extraordinarily ignorant of LHR runways, with two for both 28 and 10
Heathrow runways are 27 and 09

Tinpot, was talking about London City Airport. So who looks extraordinarily ignorant now?

Alledgedly more of the lady than you wanted to see

There was indignation from some quarters about the original link so I put in a new one with slightly less revealing pics. PPRuNe Radar

Yeah, I agree it was a bit rough, not even 100% sure if it was the lady in question, not somewhere I would want to go, at least not without a safety line, and, no, not from Drapes - I don't think she would be his type

Someone should have words...
She admitted on air to texting her co-presenter from the aircraft during the flight to say she would be late....

She has her uses though - thanks to one of my colleagues I'll always remember the ICAO for a certain airfield just north of Farnborough: Lorraine Kelly's Black Bushe......
