Bristol deps/arrivals via WOTAN/ABDAL

In 20 years at EGGD, can't recall so much FIR traffic (Glider-World this week, it seems, plus heaps of GA, Filton IR trainers and Colerne Grobs up to the base of the airway) in the way of WOTAN deps and ABDAL arrivals as we've had in the past 3 days. Makes life at 'GD APR very taxing at times, especially for our low-time APR U/ts and OJTIs, trying to teach RAS requirements.

My personal thanks to anyone who does LACCS23 and who reads this for your co-op in giving us higher at WOTAN and south-side routes at short notice. Makes life oh so much easier, just to get our deps into controlled airspace that bit quicker.

Out of interest, are you guys on S23 aware of the FIR traffic that causes us to apply the non-standard (=weird and wonderful) headings and to call the S23 Planner with requests?

Do any of the BRS aircrew reading this appreciate the situation and just why you get amended airways clearances at the holding point accordingly on days like these?

About time you went public, letter to the MP first, then some targetted media feeds. You are not creating a precedent by wanting regulated airspace protection for your 60,000 ATMs a year.....the airspace existed in the past....remember Chepstow etc.
Yes, we are very aware of your problems, and yes, we bend over backwards to help as long as it doesn't adversely affect overall sector safety.
As for the long long long promised improvements.....always jam tomorrow......never any urgency apparently; and now Exeter is getting very busy....with even less protection than your postage stamp size Zone.
One of the knock-on features of the lack of regulated airspace is the requirement of 250knots below FL100, which we cannot over-ride [ military exempt ].......it makes climb-out traffic that much harder to integrate into the "big flow".
Regards to you all.

Ah, but isn't it all great fun !?

"I suppose a balloon in the overhead didn't help!"
Might have been alright if the great polar explorer had bothered to recharge his radio battery or even buy a radio that worked!!!

Inter-sector coordination re headings and levels isn't a problem even these days so shouldn't be between the sectors and airfields. FL120 to the east is quite often available at most times if it's a help to you.
