Already got one - abuts onto the new 'conservatory' (Yes - that really improved the view to the rear of the tower! )

Sir Alan Sugar has a wonderful line at the beginning of "The Apprentice":

I don't like liars, I don't like schmoozers, I don't like bullsh1tters, I don't like cheats.

Sounds like a pretty good description of both Serco and AMS management and their techniques if you ask me. Both as bad as one another, knowing the troops will be professional and carry on regardless - thereby not putting them in such a bad light.

Well - guess what guys - not anymore. The rules have changed and the gloves are off.

oh dear, but then it could only be expected when will these people learn, you don't get nothing on the cheap All the platitudes in the world won't help if they can't provide the staff and keep all their promises. Such a shame that the unit we had has disintegrated because of two people who think they know better !

leggs says it all.

Trying to do it cheap + broken promises = poor morale + staff leaving!!

It might have been badly managed before but at least staff walked around with smiles on their faces between the moaning.

Lessons to be Learned

Doesn’t ‘bringbackserco’ say it all. Lets hope other ‘Lets Try And Do It Cheaper’ providers of Air Traffic Control Services learn the lesson from his posts. Swansea suffered from ‘sheerbloodyawful’ trying to do ATC on the cheap and they closed the airport with their incompetence.

The provision of ATC services is very different from other airport services and airport administrators should heed the lessons of history. There are only two people who can close your airport. ATCOs and RFFS. Treat them fairly and all will be well. Treat them like Filton are and take the consequences.

Filton ATCOs, I do hope that you come through this hiccup.

bring back serco has hit the nail on the head really, dare it be said

I think the conservatory has its benefits; from planting tomatoes- to sitting in the comfort of the new wicker chairs that are on order.....!
The money, as always, should of been spent on more staff but no.. lets sort out the major problems first............!!!!

I hear its a case of sort out the staffing and do the work of 4 controllers yourselves or no new kitchen

This is not the bright new begining we were all promised

ps: Any way leggs you can shut it, rumor says this is all your fault

Well it seems all that glitters isn't gold, but then again it is easy to forget how Serco used to be!!
Are ther still fry ups on friday mornings?
. Will ther be any other depertures soon?
. Will AMS be able to hold the contract?
. What go's on with the college side of things?
. Is there such a thing as a Filton Blue Meany yet!
. Anyone else think Trever Mc Donald is the best
. How go's it for the ones that got away?

Is this likely to have an impact on the Airport Manager? After all it was his decision to take on AMS wasn't it? If there's one controller leaving soon anyway, and undoubtably at least one other will be applying to Bristol, things could (could) be about to get very embarrasing

I see that the recent advert in 'Flight' for controllers at Filton is under the Bae Systems banner.

Who exactly is the employer.....AMS or Bae Systems?

The advert looks like a dodgy cover to gain respectability for a contract in difficulties to me.

AMS is now a 'wholly' owned subsidiary of BAe systems It's still an internal contract provision as far as I'm aware, but the advert will probably get more response under a BAe banner, you may have noticed that the email address for enquiries is an AMS one The use of the term 'competative' when referring to the salary may prove to be a little misleading

I reckon your suspision is warrented Barnwood

I thought that Bae Systems would be finalising the sale of AMS fairly imminently ( May?).

If that is the case, why should an advert placed under the banner of Bae Systems ask for responses to AMS ? If Bae Systems are splitting the sale of AMS and retainng certain elements, it still doesn't make sense.

I think that AMS becoming BAE was delayed at the last moment but its just a short term delay (they havent printed the BAE Caps, frisbees and pens yet)

Hi coolbeans,
Hope things get sorted out eventually. You could always make some extra cash by selling off the BAE merchandise on ebay, I'll get my coat
