LHR Atis

On tuesday pm some idiot was reading the ATIS in a silly voice - he probably thought it funny. It was just irritating and makes ATC at LHR look amateurish ( Which it certainly is not). Was going to say something to the controllers but thought that they had enough to be going on with.

Hi Buzz,
Sorry to hear this. Will investigate tomorrow. If it happens again please mention it on 121.97 and it will be dealt with. Might be difficult to track down the culprit in retrospect.
Best regards.

Oh, please? Lighten up some. Finding a chap who has the spare capacity to bring a little levity into this increasingly stressful business is a breath of fresh air. I tell you what, why not remove that stuff about wing tips which we can now all recite verbatim, and stick it in a permanent NOTAM?

How about putting start up delay times on the ATIS too so that we can plan our departures? I understand that we're going back to separate dep/arr ATIS again soon. True?

Hi Capt H P

I agree that it is good to lighten up those moments of tension with some humour, but the best way to do it is with a witty riposte or a brief comment on the RTF. Reading out the ATIS in a silly voice is not good for the professional reputation of a Unit, and in extreme circumstances could lead to a non English speaking pilot misunderstanding an important piece of information.
