Looking for a job as an air traffic assistant
Hello everyone,. .. .I'm a student at Loughborough University studying for a degree in Air Transport Management. It's a 4 year course with a year spent in industry. The problem is that no companies are committing themselves for a placement for a year.. .. .I have therefore decided to skip to usual pains of asking for a placement (they usually say "we don't do 2 weeks work experience"...Hello? I did ask for a year in industry!!!)and seek employment.. .. .I am interested in applying for a job as an air traffic assistant. I have lots of knowledge on air transport from my degree and have spent lots of time visiting ATC units (LHR, SOU, NERC, LATCC) Does anyone know of any Air Traffic Assistant jobs going?. .. .Would like to start in 12 weeks...any info would be helpful.. .. .Thanks. .. .Pete

Pete,. .With respect, there are not many atc employers going to look at you with regard to taking you on for only two years, despite your obvious enthusiasm.. .Why not look at something on the ground operational side of airports, (ground opps, ramp handling or similar).. .I don't know if they still do so, but I remeber Coventry Airport taking on people in your situation every so often, giving them a grounding in all aspects of airport operation and then grooming them for future management. It's worth a try, I think the pay was just above the legal minimum but it's sound experience for what you want and relatively local.. .Alternatively try the British Airports Authority, they do take on folk like yourself, but you could end up anywhere in the group (UK, Europe or even Oz). <a href="http://www.baa.co.uk" target="_blank">http://www.baa.co.uk</a>. .Cheers.
