Southend & Manston LARS

How come Southend and Manston only provide LARS to 25nm when everyone else is 30 or 40?

Each LARS unit is free to set the maximum range they will provide a service to. This will depend on a number of factors such as radar coverage, adjacent units/controlled airspace, range they normally display on their displays, possible other things beside. Also neither Southend nor Manston have SSR so that will limit the amount of traffic they would wish to give a service to at any one time.
