Post New ATIS freq at EDI

Can someone please explain the use of 123.9 for the ATIS at Edinburgh? We still had breakthrough from LHR ATIS down below FL100 yesterday, no great drama on a decent day, bit more serious if the wx was down toward minimums. Also what arrangement makes it impossible to receive the info inbound unitl virtually on the localiser but is perfectly (and exclusively) readable until south of the MCT when trying to get the Heathrow info!!

We were told when it changed that the reasons were twofold; firstly to free up 132.075 for "someone else", and secondly because 123.9 was closer to 121.2 there'd be less thumb-twiddling. Take your pick!

I would like to make one request on this to crews operating at EDI - if you're having difficulty getting the ATIS, please let Scottish know when you are still far enough south to do something about it. These days it's often too busy to pass the weather on 121.2 when you first call (although obviously we will endeavour to do so where requested), however when you are passing (e.g.) Margo Scottish still have time to let us know that you're having difficulty and tie something up with us.

Also, make sure that your operator complains officially - that's the only way it'll get changed!

My personal view as a ScACC ATCO regarding this problem, please don't tell us anymore, we know about it!!!!! and please make sure it is reported to your company and anyone else that can influence this ridiculous situation.
If you need the weather do the following, Scottish Volmet is your first (hopefully obvious) option.
Secondly dial up 119.87 on box 2 , call "Scottish Information" and one of our fine FISOs will get the weather for you in a blink of an eye.
If it's foggy and you need RVRs, be patient with ScACC as they are not displayed here, we get them on the phone from the airfields as necessary.
As an aside on the fog issue, if the RVR at destination is near your limits an initial call to ScACC of "we require XXXm" is quite useful and can greatly help our planning of holding levels.
Thanks in anticipation.....
