Talking Words of Wisdom wanted on ATC.....

Hi Folks, just posted for a little advice...
I recently passed(God only knows how!!)the written brainscrambler test for Student ATCO and am due to attend an interview in Prestwick in mid January and was wondering if anyone had any wise words to put my way?
I have a real interest in this line of work and was wondering what sort of things the interviewer is looking for?Hopefully, overenthusiasm(read that as obsession :-)) on my part wont count against me..
Anything +ve you have to offer will be gratefully received

Hi there, well done and good luck

I'm certainly no expert but one of the important things to remember is that there is not always a perfectly and strictly "right" answer to some of the questions.

The interviewer will be looking for you to problem solve and apply lateral thinking with logic - on the spot. And then he or she will be seeing if you have the courage of your convictions to back up what you've said with hard facts and true knowledge.

I bet you get the classic "airliner stuck at the end of the runway with one waiting to land - what would you do?" question too - always a favourite Make sure you know what you'd do.

You might also be asked to old "Boeing 757 has 25 mins of fuel left is travelling at 350kts and is blah blah miles away from the nearest airfield - will it make it?" question.

So make sure you have that damned time/speed/distance thing sussed.

If you're as fanatical as you say then this will shine through in your interview and put you head and shoulders above someone else who's simply looking for another job - type thing. Make sure you have the knowledge to back up your interest and I promise you - you won't go far wrong

Don't forget that the interviewers will also be assessing how well you'll fit into a close knit team environment so don't go all lose cannon on them

And remember too that they want to know what you're like as a person, not just how you'll be as an ATCO so don't stiffle your personality too much.

Hope this helps, hopefully someone may have an idea for you as tyo which questions will be asked *exactly* - it has been mentioned many many times before here on PPRuNe so trawl through the board and you'll find what you seek. Good luck and keep us posted as to how you got on.

I'm off to work out why, on Christmas Day, I'm here on PPRuNe
