Red face The Times Guide to ATC

Anyone else read the artice in the Times Weekend section today 'Wings of desire' - http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0,...64066,00.html. It's a sort of 'Confessions of a plane spotter'.

Some real gems. Speaking of the lack of traffic at Liverpool airport (whenever it was) the writer says "We did not allow this problem to get in our way. Liverpool was a major crossroads for transatlantic flights from all over Europe. As jets streaked across the city sky at 30,000ft, they would radio the airport control tower to give their call sign and bearing before heading across the Atlantic."

And this is what they said: "This is Clipper 307 bearing 180 west." Ho hum.

I know the article is suppose to be light-hearted and having a go at the Greeks but the author isn't worth his anorak.
