A denial.
There have been a number of articles in the press recently commenting on NATS managements' decision to limit the provision of RAS (radar advisory service) in the Scottish FIR. This decision was a carefully considered response to a loss of seperation that occurred last week and was not a knee jerk reaction to absolve NATS of any blame should this sort of incident happen again.
However following this decision to provide a FIS to traffic that formerly received a radar service there has been speculation that this policy could work it's way south. I would like to take this opportunity to re-assure you that this is probably not the case.
It is true that London airspace has a greater number of airmisses than traffic on the advisory routes. It is true that a certain number of these are, indirectly, attributed to NATS. It is NOT true that NATS is considering reducing the service in the London TMA to an alerting service so it can stop getting the blame.
Safe, Orderly and Expeditous. Or kick back and pass them the weather if they ask for it...
