Post Assistant Air Traffikers at EGNT!

How do you become an assistant without applying to NATS and working at your local aerodrome?
Newcastle is my local airfield, and i am aware they have their own private ATC unit, and i was wonderin if they do some sort of training??

I'd appreciate any help!

Years ago, Newcastle used to be one of the places where you could start as an assistant and eventually take your ATC licenses. Luton was onother one.

Not sure what the state of play is now........but it's always worth a letter, just in case

Footnote : Luton doesn't do that anymore.........Luton is now part of NATS, whose record on recruitment is hardly awe-inspiring !

I'm just thinking ahead cos i'm only 15 now!

I would enjoy working at Newcastle, call me sad but i could sit in the tower or in radar for ages and just watch cos its so interesting! Obviously i'd prefer to get involved like!
Anyone know the age at which you can start training, what the pay and conditions are like etc etc?

Lordy forbid, Andy, that you should want to go to Newcastle. You might end up sitting next to my extremely insane old mate JC!!!!

If it's the same JC that used to be at Heathrow he's no longer at Newcastle - been at Jailbrook for the last 2 months and is waiting to see what turns up after it closes!

That's 'im - mad Irish! I helped train him at Heathrow and we had some absolute riots. Great disaster that he left us - it left a big hole in our working lives. He beat me at snooker too, the swine!

On behalf of JC - who's stood behind me as we speak:

Dear Heathrow Director-haven't played snooker since I left but the golf is still great. Thanks for your comments about holes in lives, same here. However if I hadn't left when I did I would've been inside a gin bottle by now!! Thinks, why didn't I stay??
