Portishead radio?//145 runway alignment!
I have tried several times recently to raise these people on 131.625...are they still around;do they operate HF?
Completely separate issue.Just to advise you that the latest Emb145s have been fitted with new software which will execute a badly offset loc capture. At Man it will look like we are lined up on the wrong runway for 45 seconds then it performs a second capture.Poor I know;should be sorted out early next year.

Portishead radio closed at least a year ago I can,t remember the exact date ,a sad loss of a group of very helpful and skilled people. My outfit now use Stockholm radio who are also very good. The relentless march of progress and economics I guess.

Just to clarify the "badly offset loc capture"...
Does this happen every time or just when we get it wrong for you?
Will it always be on the "other" side of the loc from where you came?
Why does it happen?
Why did they put it in when it doesn't work? (sounds familiar )
Thanks for the warning!

Stampe thanks;on what freqs can I get hold of Stockholm.
Cossack-Like all the worst snags this one is intermittent;on average it will occur on 50% of approaches.Sometimes it can hack short finals at 180 knots the next time it won't cope well with a low speed gentle intercept at 8 miles.
-It can go through the loc by about one dot and capture from the other side or not quite make it from the intercept side(the latter is at its worst when the wind is from the opposite side to intercept). On three occasions I have been in this downwind offset situation the automatics has been unable to provide a solution with the track miles remaining.Disconnecting the autopilot is not a big deal but it is not an option open to us on cat 2 approaches(so if there is much of a crosswind a longer final would help us in very poor vis).
-We had a new std of software (version 17) which corrected some faults in EICAS 16,most unfortunately this problem appeared in the latest version.EICAS 18 is due to be fitted to all a/c early next year and will sort this out.
-How it ever got released to service like this I don't know;I used to flight test 125s and BAe would never accept this kind of problem.
