EMA Daventry SIDs

Is it me, or...??????

I don't use SIDs as a basic PPL, but I heard EMA giving departure instructions to aircraft last weekend. They referred to Daventry 2N, so, out of curiosity I thought I would have a look at what that SID actually required the crew to do.

When I looked at the Daventry SIDs I noticed that EME and EMW seem to be on the wrong side!! The EME seems to be on the Western side of the airfield, and the EMW on the Eastern side.

The departure instructions for R27 also refer to flying out towards EME instead of what I would have assumed would be EMW, and vice versa for R09 Daventry 2P.

As I said I don't use them myself but I can't understand the logic behind this! Is it a terminology thing that I don't understand, or are the SIDs wrong??? Surely something that basic would have been spotted by now?

Would appreciate someone in the know clearing this up for me!

Thanks,
Mark

The chart's correct. It doesn't refer to the EME and EMW NDBs at East Mids, it refers to the I-EME/I-EMW DME installation which is next to the runway and associated with the ILS system.

So on the DTY SIDS chart, I-EME and I-EMW are effectively the same thing - it doesn't matter which end of the runway you're taking off from. Flights don't take off towards the EME or EMW NDBs, rather they take off away from the I-EME/I-EMW, and turn at varying distances from the DME.

Thanks LTP,

I knew they 'had' to be correct but I was 'blinded' by the NDBs, didn't think about the DME!!
Simple when someone points it out!!

I can sleep at night again now!!!

Thanks.

Exclamation

Don't always assume that they "have" to be correct.
When the 5th runway opened here, they republished the SIDs. Unfortunately they made an error. Heading 237 after take off then turn right heading 235.

We don't usually use them all simultaneously, but recently we did just for a little while. Kind of focuses your attention! Its all in the timing.
Dual runway...

BTW The 6th runway is already designed, just waiting for more traffic before they build it.

Edited to add:

Take a look here to see the layout. The 6th will go below and parallel to the far runway, to give 4 parallels and a pair of parallels at 90 degrees.

Its looks like DFW has had the benefit of being designed from scratch rather than growing up over time with bits and pieces added on as more capacity was needed. What's the hourly throughput? 150+? We top out at about 100/hour just now, but there is definately spare capacity there. Ground can be a mess though!

As niteflite01 will attest, it is very difficult to get more concrete at UK airports due to local objections and a lack of growing space. Since 1970 there have only been two full-length runways built in the UK. At Edinburgh in 1973(ish) and Manchester in 2001(correct?). Funnily enough both places I worked at before moving here.
BTW I think we hi-jacked the thread. Sorry Newark Anagram

Hi Cossack;

For arrivals only, we are normally in the 144 an hour range plus some <G>.... Then you can throw in two jet departure runways and one prop departure runway throwing aircraft off as soon as the first ones nose wheel lifts clear the next one (except for heavies of course.) So total throughput is probably somewhere in the 240 to 250 an hour range. But, the departure pushes don't normally last an hour...

Of course, it's easy when you get everything 10 miles in trail. And could you explain to me why we were holding YYZ departures on the ground here until 1230ish? Spare capacity.............

I think I'll stop now.............*hides*

Jerricho

Get back here!!!!
...could you explain to me why we were holding YYZ departures on the ground here until 1230ish?
I can't because I wasn't at work. Or maybe that's your reason!

I think it was probably due to the heavy rain and strong winds in the early part of the day from the remnants of Frances. Take a look at the golf highlights or The Weather Network!

...everything 10 miles in trail
That's en enroute requirement (in both directions) not a tower one. 10 miles in trail from 4 streams onto 2 mixed-mode runways = 5 mile spacing. Usually enough for a departure in between depending on how realistic the speed control is.

Scott

Sounds like luxury! Departure want our jets 3 miles apart and we turn all the props. Makes for a more leisurely pace for the higher paid Terminal dwellers! We have to go easy on them

Oh, I know you were taking the p*ss out of me. I meant I can't believe you even bothered to reply to it

Positive heat wave here today. It got to 24C. I see it was snowing in YEG this morning!

How's the Wx there? Time to build an ark yet?

Ummm, I don't think we hijacked this thread. I think we violated it. Sorry.
