I have yet to receive a start date but I certainly hope I will be starting in March. As a matter of interest, when did you apply, get interviewed and get your medical? I applied in July '03, was interviewed in March '04 and got my medical in June '04 so hopefully if your dates are something similar I'll get to start in March.

Hard work is ahead of you and it doesn't stop until you're validated..

Good luck and I sincerely hope you get as much fun out of your career as I did..

I am still waiting for my medical check. I applied back in March '03, initial tests March '04, interview June '04, and spoke to HR last week who said course allocation would be based on application date, i.e when you first applied...so fingers crossed...

Have you been for your medical yet? Did you get a letter telling you that you are on the March course?

Sorry I havent replied sooner! dam BT!! I am having my medical on 14 oct 04 and spoke to "HR" and was told to expect march. I am heading to Bournemouth this weekend to check places to stay out of interest! I assume once I pass medical then they will give me a start date. It would be unfair to sign people onto courses on anything other than their application date? right?

a_exley, et al.

Its not as simple as just assigning people to courses based on their application date. I'm afraid there's no rhyme or reason to how they assign courses so when other people applied has no bearing on when they all get course dates.

For example, it took me 2 years from initial application to start at the college, yet there were also people on my course who'd only just applied six months earlier. The course after mine then had people who'd also been waiting for about 2 years, so you see, dates of application, medical etc doesn't matter as it seems to be a lottery as to who'll get picked to start when.

Sorry but thats the HR dept for you

HR works in weird and wonderful ways! I knew I wanted to be an ATCO, it was just a question of whether it would be before or after uni. During my A-levels I thought I was screwing them up royally so as a contingency I thought it wouldn't do me any harm to apply to NATS in case I didn't get into uni. That was in the June. By September that same year I'd passed 1st tests, 2nd tests and my medical, and been offered a start date for the coming January. So from initial application to actually starting at the college was under 6months! What I don't understand is that there is a chronic shortage of controllers, esp at MACC & LACC and yet HR appear to be going backwards in the recruitment process!

not gonna complain, just glad finally got course date, applied july 03. see you guys in bournemouth!

Good Luck with your taining and congratulations.

Even though I've have been a controller for over 19 years, I'm in training at A80 (Atlanta Large Tracon), so even us old timers have to go back into the training enviroment when we transfer to larger and busier facilities.

Hi, I'll be starting in March too!
I got my acceptance letter in July, passed medical in August and like other was offered Sept start with 7 days notice. Needless to say I couldn't accept that with such short notice. I was then offered December but had to knock that back as well due to other committments.
Anyway, got start date for March now and really looking forward to it! Seems ages away still but I'm sure the time will fly by!
See you all in Bournemouth in only 4 1/2 months!!

I'm due to start in March as well, just found out this morning. Apparently I won't get a letter for another 2 months, but I will be starting on March 7th. I absolutely can't wait!!! Any other March people out there?
