Job in New Zealand?

Hi!
I`m a controller from Norway working twr, with radar.
Just wondering if anyone here knows if there are any job-opportunities in New Zealand... And also who I might contact in NZ about this. Have tried sending an e-mail to Airways, but I haven`t gotten any reply yet..
And is it the same catch-22 thing in NZ as I understand it is in Oz regarding visa/job-contract? (You can`t get a visa unless you have a contract and you don`t get an offer for contract if you don`t have a visa...)

Thanx for any help!

T.

A couple of controllers from the UK got jobs there recently but you have to have residency first. They have recently put up the requirements for residency so unless you have close relatives there it's probably not going to happen.

If you were to get a job there you would have to re-train from the very beginning including all the basics at college. Whilst you are training you get no pay and you have to pay NZ$10,000 for the course. Doesn't sound that appealing to me!

emigrate to NZ ...

I don't think you need to have residence before immigrating but it does help to have a job offer ...

Thanx Soted!

Thanx for the tips. And I must say, NZ$10.000 surely doesn`t sound that appealing to me! I still haven`t gotten any answer. Better go on checking elsewhere in the world... Thought about SA for a while, but saw several posts on the Oz controllers page that made me think again.
Anyway, I`ll make a post here if anything interesting should arise from NZ!

Thanx!

Tompano,

NZ$10,000 is about 3,000 pound sterling. I'd say that's a small investment in living in the second best country in the world.

Some of the best white wine in the world is made there, and the rugby is brilliant. You should really think seriously about it.

Tompano comes from the best country in the world, according to the U.N.'s Human Development Index, that is!

To bad the boss seems to think that we are too many controllers.

But I think they are getting a bit of cold feet, because they realize that they will have a problem at some units allready nex winter because they stopped recruitment last year. Next class to start aug. 2005.

That will cost them!

M609, has lost all hope of getting a job where sun shines all year, at least on this side of 2008

Hi Tompano,

I'd give this URL below a go -

http://www.airways.co.nz/about_Airways/careers.asp

Airways Corporation is the sole ATS provider for NZ domestic and the NZ Oceanic FIR as well as carrying out quite a bit of international work and consultancy.

I've no idea what the NZ Government needs as far as residency and such forth goes, but an email to Pauline McIntrye in the HR department,

[email protected]

sould get you any answers you need.

Good luck

Even with NZ grandparents and a NZ born mother they wouldn't consider my application (18 months ago), on the grounds "that I didn't qualify for residency".

Perhaps they'd heard the truth about me.

Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.

Answer from Airways.

Hi everybody!

I finally got my answer from Airways today.
Not a very positive reply, though...

Here`s what I got:

Hi

Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately we would require any applicant to have NZ residency before considering any application for a position. We operate a vacancy bidding system and fill our vacancies through this process. Any vacancies which we do have which are available for external applicants would be advertised on our website however you would need to have NZ residency to apply for these.

Sorry we are unable to assist you at this time.

niknak - are you a dual national? I'm puzzled about your residency issue.

Maybe you're not an All Black fan..............

No, I never pursued the dual nationality thing - perhaps I should have done, but I'm happy where I am for the moment, I was born in the UK and hold a British passport.
I got exactly the same reply as our Norwegian pal did, it makes me wonder if they really bother reading CVs after seeing that the applicant isn't a N. Zealander.

Respect to the mighty A.Bs, but I drink for England...
