March Initial Selection Tests

Hi Y'all,

Just wondering if anyone who was advised they would be invited for the above in March has had any firm dates etc yet? They said 6 weeks notice minimum would be given to people yet its brushing towards this with no news.

Seems, reading other threads, its put back all round in NATS these days!

GWK - Have just had confirmation through today - 12th March Manchester Hotel. I have since moved address and am in Durham myself. Will you be going to the same test centre?

Hiya,

Just gone mine this morning too, they must have been reading my post! For the 9th of March though, which is a shame.

Not quite 6 weeks but can't complain!

Anyone going on the 9th? Think i'll go on the 8th and stop over, less hassle and i'll not be so tired.

GOOD LUCK!

Ian

Hey guys and gals,

For what it's worth, I have just read the NATS staff newsletter, and HR have just hired a "HR advisor" specialising in recruitment, who has worked in the States post 9/11 ensuring that major companies "essential operations" were removed from major cities.

I am at the Manchester tests on 12th of march as well.

I took them in london in Jan 2003 and failed the 1st test, only answered 30 out of 40 in the 5 mins.

I applied online this year and as such haven't recieved anything via post so I would just like to ask if they have sent out a little booklet detailing history of ATC and plane stats to any of you other hopefuls?? They did last year but as I haven't recieved one this time I am wondering if they've scrubbed that test.

I want to be as prepared as I can be this time round and it got me wondering, if they have removed that test have they altered the others?? As far as I can work out, they haven't.

Thanks for any info,

Phil

Yo,

I applied last year before the online thing came into play, but I got one of those booklets, with the maths, cubes, diagram things and somthing else. Oh and yes, also the book on NATS, VORs DMEs NDBs ILS and such forth, and aircraft types and example routes.

Good luck all.

Just wondering if anyone knows how they allocate people to a test centre? I assumed that you would be sent to the nearest one to where you live which in my case would be Manchester (from Newcastle). However, I still haven't had a letter so I'm thinking that I may be being allocated to a different test location.
Anyone got any ideas?

GolfWhiskeyKilo: Thanks for the info, luckily I still have those things from last year, just a matter of finding them. Its something they'll need to sort out, how many people are likely to follow my route and apply online and get there completely unprepared for the test on NATS, VOR's, planes etc.??

As I applied online I was asked to select my own test centre and date. When I applied last year I was sent to the London test centre even though manchester is closer so I think its as much about when they can fit you in. Personally I think you would be better going further away because you can claim hotel expenses that way and so don't have to worry about traffic on the day of the tests.

Hi GolfWhiskeyKilo (Ian)!

I think I met you at the 9 March selection day in Manchester - I got a nice A4 envelope asking me to an interview in April - did you?....

There's no mention of visiting an ATC Unit - are you expected to have done so before the interview? I'm guessing that it's worth doing (and I'd like to anyway), but it doesn't mention it. How do I arrange this?

Cheers!
Matt.

I got an email with the deppressing news that I failed again. I've emailed them back to ask where I went wrong but all they'll say is I failed basic checking (again).

Will have to seriously think about whether its worth trying for 1 last time.

Good luck to all those who passed,

Phil
