Hi i am doing a essay on the future roles of the pilot and i would be grateful of any opinions on the topic from any pilots. cheers

The emphasis nowadays on the role of the pilot has shifted more from manually flying the plane itself to reliance on automation so as to manage the cockpit better, gaining situational awareness and using all the resources available (including the other pilot) to get a bigger picture and manage the flight better. Hope I've given you a good starter. Maybe you could research CRM, Crew Resource Management.
