Plane forced to land with one engine out

AN Aer Arann flight from Dublin to Sligo was forced to make an emergency landing at Shannon airport last night after the pilot had to shut down one of the two propeller engines.

The ATR 42 twin prop aircraft, carrying 31 passengers and a crew of three, touched down safely at 6.15pm. Emergency services on standby were not required.

An Aer Arann spokesperson said the pilot noticed an indicator light which suggested a high temperature on the oil gauge.

All passengers were taken by bus to Sligo last night while the plane was grounded pending a mechanical examination.
