Is this ex-airline Airworld (AWD) related at all to the current Spanish carrier Iberworld (IWD). Apart from the designator code and name similarities, Airworld's old tour operator, Sunworld, used a lot of hotel properties from the Iberostar Group. Sunworld itself was called Iberotravel previously?

Yes sunworld/airworld became Flying Colours - I dont believe there was a link with Iberworld.

I agree, I am sure Iberworld has nothing to do with Airworld.

I flew on an Airworld A 320 around 1997, give or take a year.

As has been said Flying Colours absorbed Airworld then later joined with Caledonian to become JMC Airlines, now Thomas Cook Airlines.

Airworld was initially financed by the group that now runs Iberworld, the latter sold any control along with Airworld to Thomas Cook. Thomas Cook subsequently acquired Flying Colours and used that name for the merged operation, Caledonian was merged into the operation at the same time as the name change to JMC. There is no longer any financial interest linking Iberworld with the remnants of Airworld nor with Thomas Cook other than through normal commercial relationships
