I'm tired of struggling to borrow headsets for my pax, and considering I couldnt afford to fly without my pax, I think I ought to get a spare headset so I can communicate easily with at least my 'co pilot'. Where can I pick up a cheapie, or even second hand headset? I'm not even going to look at Transair, I bet a pair of ear muffs from them would be a hundred quid!

If anyone wants to sell a old/spare set pm me.

Cheers

Dude,

Could you say what type of headset you already have? No point in being offered something incompatible.

Good point Roger.

Mine is a trusty old Telex Echelon Headset (for fixed wing)

Anything that will go with it is of interest. Not bothered about colour, make etc. As long as its not knackered!

Cheers

I bought a cheap second headset for Mrs Big direct from a supplier in the US:

http://www.pilotmall.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=1&Product_Code=896&Category_Code=softcomm

Within about 2 mins of placing the order on-line I received an e-mail confirming that the item would be sent out that day. Very impressed with the service, although I don't want to be seen as 'advertising'.

They charged around $20 to send this to the UK. I took a chance over the compatibility with my own set, and it worked fine. Only problem was that I then got charged another £20 for customs fee and VAT by the Post Orrifice at this end! Rip off! Still worked out cheaper than buying from a supplier in the UK when you add on post and packaging.

Hi Dude. I wouldn't knock Transair too much. I have bought loads of stuff from them and not really thought too much about the expense of things there. Overall they are pretty ok as for pricing.

I would give myself a budget of about £100 if i were to buy a second hand headset.
First stop would be e-bay or somewhere like that. You can, for an extra twenty quid buy THIS (http://www.transair.co.uk/jepdoubles/moreinfo/echelon100.pdf) .

There are other good pilot shops around the uk so I would shop around first. Good luck...

If price is the main driver, then I would tend to suggest EBay - sample EBay Headset Auction (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2937688590&category=4783) is here (current price £50) - they look a sort of pastel blue in the photo, so no good for a certain lady with a tin of flapjacks ;). As with all auctions, don't get carried away - be aware of what the street value is and don't go over that.

Another source of economic headsets is here (http://custom1.farnell.com/cpc/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CPC+Choice+exp+4th+Mar&category%5Fname=&product%5Fid=AV0070145) - I have a pair of these and they work as well as my DC H10-20s.

A goodly few years ago, I bought two pairs of Airlites for about £20 each. They had moving coil microphones and NATO plugs, so I had to lash out another £10 each for .21 inch plugs for the mikes, and build little mike amplifier units, but for a total of about £40 each I had two useable headsets for the rear seat pax. No noise reduction, of course, but at least folks could hear.

Sadly, they went down with G-BDKV when she went swimming.

Anyone know a source for Airlites? I wouldn't mind getting two more for G-UTSY.
